Luna Foundation’s mission to improve support for children and young people impacted by parental suicide boosted by £25,000 Postcode Society Trust grant
Luna Foundation CIC, a social enterprise operating on a nationwide basis, has received a significant boost to its mission to improve the support for children and young people who lose a parent to suicide thanks to a £25,000 grant from Postcode Society Trust.
Luna was established in March 2022 to transform the support for children and young people who lose a parent to suicide. The social enterprise has already trained almost 450 professionals to provide the best possible care to children and young people who experience suicide bereavement.
Luna was founded by CEO Anna Wardley, who lost her dad to suicide when she was 9 and carried out international research as a Churchill Fellow focused on how support can be improved in the UK.
Luna has developed evidence-based training which is delivered online, offered in seven regions of England to date. Additionally, Luna has produced 14 helpful guides for professionals and families focused on supporting children and young people after suicide bereavement, and has also developed a suicide bereavement policy template for education settings.
The new funding from Postcode Society Trust, a grant giving charity funded entirely by players of People’s Postcode Lottery, will help Luna to transform the support available to children and young people after a parent dies by suicide by delivering training and resources to those providing support. It is estimated that 9,000 children experience the death of a parent by suicide every year across the UK.
Anna Wardley, founder and CEO of Luna Foundation, says: “We’re delighted to receive this valuable support in the form of a Postcode Society Trust grant. Thanks to the generosity of People’s Postcode Lottery players, we can forge ahead with our mission to create a web of support for children and young people impacted by parental suicide across the UK. This is vital as we know how important it is for these young people to get timely and appropriate support to mitigate the long-term risks to their own mental health.”
Postcode Society Trust supports smaller charities and good causes in South of England to make a difference to their community for the benefit of people and planet.
Players of People’s Postcode Lottery have funded good causes in every postcode area in Britain.
